Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed a significant number of gunmen suspected to be bandits in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, with several others sustaining injuries and fleeing.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre for Operation Fansan, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed that the troops had carried out a successful fighting patrol in response to a distress call from residents and vigilantes in Yar Galadima village.
Abdullahi explained that the operation took place early on Sunday morning, following reports that terrorists were attacking the village.
He stated, “The troops responded promptly to provide assistance and restore peace to the affected area.”
During the operation, the troops encountered terrorists who had set up ambushes at two separate points on the road leading to the village.
“The ambush sites were cleared by the troops, and some of the terrorists were neutralised while others fled,” Abdullahi noted.
He also revealed that the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma was quickly deployed to offer close air support to the troops.
“As the troops continued their advance towards the village, the fleeing terrorists were also engaged by the aircraft, leading to the neutralisation of scores of terrorists,” Abdullahi added.
Abubakar reiterated the troops’ unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorist threats across the North West.
