Flamingos’ scoring prodigy, Harmony Chid,i grabbed a hat-trick as Nigeria triumphed 3-2 over Ivory Coast in their second match of the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup in Accra on Monday.
Chidi, who had already contributed 13 out of the 25 goals in the Flamingos’ dominant march to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in the Dominican Republic this year, once again took the spotlight.
Her performance ensured Nigeria topped Group B in the inaugural competition.
After their commanding 9-0 victory over Niger Republic on Thursday, the Flamingos concluded the group stage with a perfect six points, having scored 12 goals and conceded just two.
Ivory Coast, who had defeated Niger Republic 5-0, finished second with three points, seven goals scored, and three goals conceded.
The Nigeriens, who failed to score in their three games, ended the group stage with zero points and 14 goals against them.
Ivory Coast will face hosts Ghana in the first semi-final on Thursday, while the second semi-final will feature Nigeria, quarter-finalists at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, taking on neighboring Benin Republic at the Ghana Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Esther Kwame, who opened the scoring for Ivory Coast with a long-range effort in the 56th minute, and Guasam, who converted a penalty five minutes later after a foul by Rokibat Azeez, could pose a significant challenge to the Black Maidens on Thursday.
