Atletico Madrid delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, thrashing Sparta Prague 6-0 in the Champions League at the Letna Stadion.
Argentina’s Julian Alvarez and substitute Angel Correa both netted twice, with additional goals from Marcos Llorente and Antoine Griezmann.
The visitors made an early statement, with Alvarez opening the scoring in the 15th minute by curling a free kick from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Just before halftime, Llorente doubled the lead, aided by striker Alexander Sorloth’s clever dummy on a cross, which ended up deceiving the goalkeeper and bouncing in at the far post.
In the 59th minute, Alvarez completed his brace, finishing from close range after a brilliant counterattack that he initiated from Atletico’s own half.
Late in the game, Griezmann and Correa added two more goals from inside the box.
Atletico Madrid, with nine points from five games, sits in ninth place in the 36-team Champions League table, while Sparta Prague languishes in 28th with just four points.
Meanwhile, AC Milan secured their third consecutive Champions League win, edging out Slovan Bratislava 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.
Milan’s Christian Pulisic broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, only for Slovan’s Tigran Barseghyan to equalize three minutes later with a quick counter-attack.
Milan struggled to seal the victory until substitute Rafael Leao restored their lead in the 68th minute.
Tammy Abraham then capitalized on a poor back-pass from Slovan’s David Strelec, scoring three minutes later to give Milan a more comfortable lead.
Slovan pulled one back in the 88th minute through Nino Marcelli, and also had Marko Tolic sent off late in the game.
Despite the drama, Milan held on to claim all three points, moving to nine points, while Slovan remains at the bottom with no points.
