Taraba State Police Command on Friday morning confirmed an attack on the Wukari-Kente road, which allegedly involved the family members of the State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Thursday.
Earlier, social media reports claimed that gunmen attacked the Governor’s mother and sister along the Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area.
According to Wukari Local Government Chairman, Dauda Samaila Agbu, the Governor’s sister, Atsi Kefas, was injured by gunfire and initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical treatment.
However, a senior government official quickly dismissed the social media claims. In a WhatsApp post on Thursday evening, the official stated, “The report of attack on the Governor’s mother and sister on the Wukari-Kente road is fake news.”
On Friday morning, Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Usman, addressed the media in Jalingo, confirming a robbery attack had taken place on the road.
However, he could not verify whether the Governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, or sister were involved.
“Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on Wukari-Kente road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the Governor’s mother and sister were among the victims,” Usman said.
He added that investigations were ongoing, and the authorities were determined to bring the culprits to justice.
“The people of Taraba should remain calm, as the police and other sister agencies are on top of the security situation in the state,” he assured.
