The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended four individuals in connection with the theft of a motorcycle and a gas cylinder in the Ajuwon and Odeda areas.
The arrests, made on Tuesday by operatives from the Ajuwon and Odeda divisions, followed a string of incidents involving theft and assault.
Among the suspects are Joseph Ogu and Sunday Jeremiah, who were detained for alleged theft, while Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez were accused of assaulting local security operatives during an attempt to apprehend a fleeing suspect identified as Lati in the Iyana-Efon area of Odeda.
Speaking about the Ajuwon case, the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, explained that a commercial motorcyclist, Adebiyi Philip, parked his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (number plate TRE 228 WZ) at Alapara Junction while looking for passengers. Upon returning, he discovered his motorcycle missing.
Odutola disclosed that Adebiyi later found his motorcycle with 33-year-old Ogu, who was caught tampering with the vehicle’s key and security system.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the motorcycle was recovered. The case is currently under investigation, with further updates anticipated.
In a separate incident in Iyana-Efon Kila under Odeda Local Government, a member of the Nigeria Hunter and Safety Group, Dele Sosanya, reported that a suspect named Lati had stolen kolanut seeds from his farm on December 19 and 22. Sosanya confronted the suspect, who subsequently fled the area.
However, on Christmas Eve, at about 10:15 a.m., Lati was reportedly spotted again. As local security personnel attempted to arrest him, Lati allegedly resisted, leading to an altercation.
Odutola stated that two accomplices, Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez, then attacked a security officer, Segun Owolabi, with a machete, causing severe injuries. A patrol team arrived, apprehending Isikilu and Faruq, while Lati escaped.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Lati, who managed to flee. The case is under investigation by the DCB, and the suspects remain in custody,” Odutola added.
Meanwhile, another theft occurred in the Odeda Division, where 35-year-old Jeremiah was arrested by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps. He was caught with a stolen gas cylinder taken from Ijemo Secondary School in Odeda.
“The cylinder was taken from Ijemo Secondary School in Odeda. Following the arrest, detectives were dispatched to the school, confirming that the cylinder had indeed been stolen from the school store. The school principal has been informed, and Jeremiah is currently in custody while we investigate further. All cases are under active investigation, and we are working to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Odutola stated.
