The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended 15 suspects in connection with a violent attack on a Civilian Joint Task Force office and a primary school in the Kandahar area.
According to The PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday.
According to the police, the suspects were part of a group that attacked innocent civilians and set fire to the Civilian JTF office near Kandahar Primary School.
A section of the State Government Primary School was also burned during the unrest.
“During this unrest, members of the Civilian JTF confronted the attackers, resulting in one of the assailants, identified as Saidu Musa, aged 22, sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest from a locally made firearm,” Wakil stated.
He added, “A team of police operatives was promptly dispatched to the scene. They successfully de-escalated the conflict and evacuated the injured assailant to the Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the unrest was sparked by an earlier confrontation on December 18, 2024, when members of the Civilian JTF encountered a group of unruly youths in Kandahar.
The following day, the youths allegedly regrouped and launched a retaliatory attack, targeting the Civilian JTF office and damaging public facilities.
“The swift response of police operatives helped restore calm to the area, and 15 suspects have since been arrested,” Wakil said.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, condemned the violence, describing the attacks on government facilities as “unprovoked and unacceptable.”
He urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands, stressing the importance of reporting grievances to the authorities. “We are committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in Bauchi State,” Mohammed stated.
