The Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has dissolved the executive committee of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria, previously chaired by Israel Opayemi.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the NIPR’s Director of Public Relations, Stanley Ogadigo, who explained that the council’s decision followed a detailed evaluation of PRCAN’s operations.
Ogadigo noted that the dissolution was carried out in accordance with the law, citing issues such as tenure extension, declining performance, and the need to revamp the association to align with the NIPR’s strategic goals.
“The council deemed it necessary to take this step to reposition PRCAN for greater effectiveness and to ensure its alignment with the broader objectives of the NIPR,” Ogadigo said.
The NIPR also announced the appointment of Nkechi Ali-Balogun, a Fellow of the institute and Founder/CEO of NECCI Consults, as Chairperson of the Council Committee on Revitalisation of PRCAN.
Her mandate includes overseeing the association’s activities and conducting a transparent election by April 30, 2025.
In a letter addressed to Opayemi on December 21, 2024, the NIPR commended his contributions and sought his support in facilitating a smooth transition.
“The PRCAN Revitalisation Committee, which was inaugurated today, is composed of respected professionals, including Karibi George, Dr Ahmad Sajoh, Hajia Lami Tumaka, Chido Nwakanma, and Mr Hassan Abdul,” the statement revealed.
Other members of the committee are Bolaji Okusaga, Adetola Odusote, Muyiwa Akintunde, Dr Sophia Horsfall, Mojisola Saka, and Dr Dare Ogunyombo, who will serve as the Member/Secretary.
Speaking on her new role, Ali-Balogun pledged to steer PRCAN toward fulfilling its mandate effectively. “This is a critical responsibility, and I am committed to ensuring transparency and inclusivity in the revitalisation process,” she said.
