The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has conducted an inspection of the ongoing repair efforts on the deteriorated sections of the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road, specifically between Umuapu and Umuagwo in Imo State.
According to Ogbuku, the road’s poor condition necessitated urgent intervention by the NDDC to ensure it becomes motorable once again.
This development was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday in Port Harcourt by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.
Ogbuku, accompanied by officials from the Commission, received a progress update on-site from engineers representing the construction firm tasked with the emergency rehabilitation.
Expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing the restoration of vital roads in the Niger Delta, Ogbuku remarked, “Following a presidential directive to urgently restore the dilapidated sections of regional roads, the NDDC has quickly mobilised construction companies to carry out remedial works to ensure that the people do not suffer unnecessary hardship while travelling.”
He lauded the Federal Government for promptly addressing public concerns over the deplorable state of roads in the region.
Sharing his optimism about the project’s durability, Ogbuku stated, “As an interventionist agency, we will continue to complement the efforts of both the Federal and State Governments by taking measures to ease the stress commuters face daily.”
After reviewing the progress, he expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work being carried out and commended the contractor for demonstrating a commitment to swift completion.
He urged community members and road users to exercise patience during the rehabilitation process, assuring them that the Commission is determined to finish the project promptly.
Meanwhile, a commercial bus driver, Mr. Kinsley Okorigwe, expressed gratitude on behalf of road users, applauding the NDDC for addressing the challenges caused by the damaged road in a timely manner.
