The National Association of Nigerian Students, Zone E, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, urging immediate mobilization of contractors to the sites of four major road projects in the northeast region.
The ultimatum was conveyed through a press release by the Zone E Coordinator, Umar Afkawa, which was shared with The PUNCH.
In the release, NANS demanded that contractors handling the Numan-Gombe, Numan-Jalingo, Damaturu-Buni Yafi, and Biu-Garkida roads resume work without delay.
The students warned that failure to do so would result in mass protests across the affected states.
The deadline for action, marked by Thursday, begins the countdown for the government’s response.
Afkawa also called on the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to provide a detailed timeline for the completion of these roads and urged the Federal Government to identify and resolve any obstacles hindering the projects’ progress.
In a statement, the student leader stressed, “Failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated 14 days will lead to mass protests in Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno states. The association will mobilize students and community members to demand action. It will also engage with relevant stakeholders to escalate concerns.”
The NANS leadership highlighted that the ongoing delays in completing these roads have caused significant hardship to students, commuters, and local residents, despite repeated assurances from the federal government.
This has prompted the union to take decisive action.
