The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has clarified that the acting Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Chris Najomo, will remain in office until President Bola Tinubu decides otherwise.
Keyamo made this assertion during a phone conversation with The PUNCH on Monday.
Najomo was appointed in December 2023 following the suspension of the former Director-General, Musa Nuhu, over allegations of corrupt practices.
However, questions have been raised regarding the duration of Najomo’s acting tenure, as Section 7 of the Federal Government Public Service Rules stipulates that no officer can serve in an acting capacity for more than 12 months.
Specifically, Rule 020704(a) mandates that acting appointments must be recommended to the Federal Civil Service Commission through Form 66, which must also confirm that the acting officer assumes the full responsibilities of the role.
Najomo’s tenure, therefore, was expected to conclude four days ago. Despite this, Keyamo maintained that the acting DG remains in position until further directives from President Tinubu. He emphasized that the law does not allow a leadership vacuum.
