The Jigawa State Government has approved N117 million to establish a pilot Compressed Natural Gas conversion center in Dutse, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, announced the decision in a statement on Friday, revealing that the approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.
“This initiative demonstrates the administration’s dedication to alleviating the challenges faced by residents following the removal of the fuel subsidy,” Musa said.
Governor Umar Namadi had earlier pledged to set up 27 CNG conversion centers across the state. The initiative, he explained, aims to reduce fuel costs for residents by as much as 60 percent, providing much-needed financial relief.
“This project underscores our commitment to making life more affordable for the people of Jigawa,” Namadi had stated during a previous announcement in September.
In addition to the CNG project, the State Executive Council approved the proposed 2025 Budget Estimate for Jigawa State and the appropriation bills for the 27 local government councils.
These approvals pave the way for Governor Namadi to present the proposals to the Jigawa State House of Assembly for consideration.
