The Edo State government has announced the introduction of free bus services for residents, a measure aimed at alleviating transportation challenges and reducing financial burdens for citizens.
Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the initiative as part of his administration’s efforts to prioritize the welfare of the people.
A press statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, revealed that the free bus scheme would operate within the Benin metropolis and across the three senatorial districts of the state, covering both intra-city and inter-city routes.
“This initiative is designed to ease the transportation challenges faced by our people,” Itua stated.
“Residents in Benin and beyond can now travel without worrying about additional financial burdens.”
The statement emphasized that the scheme would extend to several towns in Edo Central, including Ekpoma, Irrua, Iruekpen, and Uromi. Edo North communities such as Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar are also included.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration described the program as a reflection of its commitment to improving the quality of life for all Edo citizens.
“This free transportation service is a step toward ensuring that our people can move around conveniently and affordably, whether within Benin City or other parts of the state,” the statement added.
