AC Milan stormed into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a 6-1 victory over Serie B side Sassuolo at the San Siro on Tuesday, powered by a first-half double from Samuel Chukwueze.
The Rossoneri now await the winner of the last 16 clash between AS Roma and Sampdoria.
The match was effectively decided within the opening 23 minutes as Chukwueze’s brace, combined with goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leao, gave Milan a commanding 4-0 lead.
Davide Calabria added a fifth goal 11 minutes into the second half, and though Sassuolo pulled one back through Samuele Mulattieri shortly after, Tammy Abraham sealed the rout in the 61st minute.
Chukwueze set the tone in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a Reijnders lofted pass to break through one-on-one with the keeper.
After his initial shot struck the post, he calmly slotted in the rebound. Reijnders followed up five minutes later, firing a long-range effort into the net.
Chukwueze grabbed his second goal in the 21st minute, curling a shot beyond the keeper’s reach following a clever layoff from Abraham.
Moments later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s no-look pass found Leao, who rifled a low shot into the far corner.
Paulo Fonseca, Milan’s manager, made eight changes to the lineup that recently defeated Empoli 3-0 and introduced four substitutes at halftime. One of those substitutes, Christian Pulisic, delivered a floated cross that deflected off the post, allowing Calabria to pounce and score.
Sassuolo’s Mulattieri managed a consolation goal, sneaking his shot past substitute keeper Lorenzo Torriani.
However, Abraham wrapped things up for Milan, calmly slotting the ball past Giacomo Satalino to complete the dominant performance.
In another fixture, Bologna secured a 4-0 home win over Monza with goals from Tommaso Pobega, Riccardo Orsolini, Benjamin Dominguez, and Santiago Castro.
Bologna will next face the winner of the Atalanta vs. Cesena tie.
