Jude Bellingham calmly converted a penalty, while Kylian Mbappé added another goal before halftime, securing Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Getafe at the Bernabéu on Sunday.
The victory brought Los Blancos within striking distance of LaLiga leaders Barcelona.
With 33 points from 14 matches, Real Madrid now sit in second place, trailing Barcelona by a single point, though the Catalans have played one match more. Getafe, meanwhile, remain in 17th place, having earned 13 points from 15 games.
The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when a corner delivery led to Getafe’s Allan Nyom fouling Antonio Rüdiger inside the box.
Bellingham, rather than Mbappé—who had missed a penalty midweek in Real’s 2-0 Champions League loss at Liverpool—stepped up and confidently slotted the ball straight down the middle, beating goalkeeper David Soria with ease.
This marked the third consecutive league game in which the 21-year-old England international found the net.
Mbappé doubled Real’s advantage in the 38th minute, latching onto a superb pass from Bellingham before curling a stunning shot from outside the box past Soria.
The goal was Mbappé’s 10th across all competitions this season and his eighth in LaLiga, tying him with the injured Vinícius Júnior as Real’s top league scorer.
The French star, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in June, was a constant threat throughout the second half. He came close to adding a third on three occasions, with his best chance coming from a dazzling solo run that saw him round Soria, only to send his shot narrowly wide.
Despite several missed opportunities to extend their lead, Real Madrid controlled the game, dominating possession with 70%.
Getafe managed to hit the woodwork twice, including a late effort from John Patrick that beat Thibaut Courtois but ricocheted off the frame of the goal.
