The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has expressed optimism that Nigeria will soon experience peace following the church’s 100-day fasting and prayer program.
In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday at midnight, Pastor Adeboye announced that the fasting, themed “RCCG FAST 2025,” will begin on January 11 and end on April 21, 2025.
The RCCG leader made this declaration during the first Holy Ghost Night of the year, held in the early hours of Saturday, January 4. He outlined the church’s focus for the fasting period, stating that the first 30 days would be dedicated to interceding for Nigeria.
Pastor Adeboye provided detailed guidelines for the fast, particularly for the elderly. He advised individuals over the age of 70 to break their fast at 3 p.m., while those above 80 should conclude theirs by noon. For those over 90, he recommended avoiding fasting altogether, stating, “You are in the departure lounge of life.”
Addressing the importance of prayer during the fasting period, Adeboye cautioned against engaging in mere abstinence from food, describing such an act as a “hunger strike” without spiritual benefit.
“We are starting January 11. It’s 100 days, that’s all,” he said. “If you fast continuously for 14 days, it will count as 28 days. Fasting continuously for 21 days will count as 63 days. If you fast continuously for 30 days, it will cover the entire 100 days.”
He also assured his congregation of his personal commitment to the exercise, stating, “Don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking I said this because I’m already over 80. I will do the single-day fasts, and in the middle, I’ll engage in enough continuous fasting to cover the 100 days. I’m not leading from behind.”
The RCCG leader further urged members to avoid idle conversations during the fasting period, emphasizing the significance of spiritual focus. He concluded with a message of hope for 2025, referencing the biblical passage, “The kingdom of God suffers violence, and the violent take it by force,” as a guiding theme for the year.
