A two-year-old boy, whose identity remains unknown, has been discovered abandoned at a dumpsite in the Iganmu area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed in a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday that the child was found on Monday night.
Hundeyin explained that the boy was brought to a police station after being found at the Sari Iganmu dumpsite, and efforts are now underway to locate his family.
“Found child: This boy of about two years old was found last night at the Sari Iganmu dump site by a Good Samaritan and brought to the station. Kindly share to enable him to reunite with his family,” Hundeyin stated.
This incident mirrors previous cases of child abandonment in Lagos.
In April 2023, reports revealed that a baby girl, estimated to be just one day old, was found abandoned near a church in the Ikorodu Local Government Area.
A passerby, who heard the infant’s cries early in the morning, rescued the child and took her to the Ikorodu General Hospital for care.
In another case reported on April 18, 2023, a day-old baby boy was discovered abandoned in a polythene bag on Alhaji Masha Road in Surulere.
The police rescued the baby and ensured he received medical attention at a nearby hospital.
