Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the establishment of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, marking a major milestone in the state’s energy sector reform.
This development was revealed in a press release issued on Monday by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity. It follows the recent signing of the Lagos Electricity Bill 2024 into law earlier this month.
The statement described the establishment of the commission as a critical move to enhance energy access and reliability in Lagos.
“The governor has approved the constitution of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, a pivotal step in advancing the state’s energy sector,” it stated.
The commission, which awaits confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, is tasked with developing a robust and sustainable energy framework.
Its focus will include ensuring innovative energy solutions and improving the reliability of power supply across the state.
In addition, the statement announced that key appointments for the commission had been approved by the governor.
The appointments aim to facilitate the seamless takeoff and operation of the regulatory body.
