Akpabio hailed Lookman, the Atalanta forward and Super Eagles striker, for clinching the coveted CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award.
“I wish to congratulate one of our finest footballers and an international superstar, Ademola Lookman, on his well-deserved win as the CAF Men’s Player of the Year. This prestigious award is a testament to Lookman’s hard work, dedication, and exceptional skills on the football pitch,” he stated.
He also applauded Chiamaka Nnadozie, goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, for being named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive time.
“I would also like to celebrate our amiable and talented Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has once again proven her worth with this award. Her outstanding performance is an inspiration to young Nigerian girls who aspire to excel in sports,” Akpabio remarked.
The Senate President’s remarks were conveyed through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, on Tuesday.
Additionally, Akpabio commended the Super Falcons for securing the Women’s National Team of the Year Award, highlighting their determination and unity as a team.
“These awards are not only a proud moment for Nigerian football but also a reflection of our nation’s rich sporting talent. We are honoured to have such exceptional athletes representing Nigeria,” Akpabio said.
He further assured Nigerians of the National Assembly’s commitment to fostering sports development in the country.
“Under my leadership, the Senate and the National Assembly will continue to support sports through enabling laws and adequate appropriations to harness the hidden talents in Nigeria,” Akpabio pledged.
