Nigerian international, Christantus Uche, featured for Getafe in their crucial 1-0 victory over fellow relegation-threatened Espanyol on Monday, helping his side climb out of La Liga’s relegation zone.
Uche was named in the starting XI and played until the 82nd minute when he was substituted.
The match’s only goal came from Álvaro Rodriguez, the on-loan Real Madrid striker, who scored with a clever header in the seventh minute.
Though both teams had opportunities, particularly in a more competitive second half, the score remained unchanged at 1-0.
The win lifted Getafe to 15th place, creating a three-point buffer over Espanyol, who are now just above the relegation zone in 18th place.
Espanyol’s loss marked their sixth consecutive away defeat, and only 7,559 fans attended the match at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
Despite the low turnout, Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria, emphasized the importance of strong performances at home.
“Our salvation lies in being strong at home, in front of our own fans,” Soria remarked.
