Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to end the 21-year-long power outage at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, located in the Ihiala Local Government Area.
The Governor made this commitment during a one-day working visit to the campus, as stated in a press release by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Wednesday.
Soludo emphasized that the Uli community would also benefit from the power restoration, noting that while the campus is orderly, it requires significant infrastructure improvements.
The statement shared that the students of Uli Campus, who have been without electricity for 21 years, will soon begin to enjoy a stable power supply.
“Even Uli as a community will equally benefit from the intervention when completed,” the governor stated. He further assured that plans would be made to reconnect Uli and the campus to power.
The governor expressed the importance of education for Anambra’s future, highlighting his administration’s commitment to human capital development, both locally and internationally.
“We must deliberately invest in qualitative education,” he affirmed, referencing the PPCP framework.
Soludo also acknowledged the significance of digital access, promising to provide Wi-Fi and internet connectivity in public areas within the campus, which he believes will enhance students’ access to the digital world.
“Today’s world is about what you can do, not just the certificate you possess. Digitalisation will give this campus an advantage,” he said.
In addition, Soludo revealed plans to begin constructing internal roads on the campus. He urged the community to take responsibility for protecting the institution.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-deh, expressed her unwavering support for the Governor, describing him as education-friendly.
Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kate Omenugha, also thanked the governor for his visit and the ongoing support, especially in obtaining accreditation for the institution.
“There are so many abandoned projects on the campus. If we propel this Uli campus, it’ll translate to the Japan of Africa,” she added.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Protocol Officer, Chinedu Nwoye, and members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Jude Ngobili, Chukwuebuka Iloh, as well as Mayor of Ihiala Local Government Area, Anayo Orjiakor.
