Two individuals, Garba Audu and Kabiru Abubakar, both residents of Laying Arfa in Gombe State, have been apprehended for allegedly attempting to buy bags of beans using counterfeit currency.
The incident occurred when Idris Usman, the victim, was en route to Lariski market. The suspects reportedly stopped him and negotiated the purchase of two bags of beans for N210,000.
However, Usman realized the cash handed to him was fake and immediately raised an alarm, resulting in their arrest.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, presented the suspects to the media on Tuesday.
During questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime, revealing they received the counterfeit money from an individual identified as Abdullahi, also known as “Manci,” who hails from Potiskum Local Government Area in Yobe State and remains at large.
ASP Abdullahi stated, “The suspects were arrested, and their vehicle was searched. We recovered two bags of beans and N39,000 suspected to be counterfeit.”
He assured the public that the suspects would face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
The PPRO also commended the community for their alertness and swift response in aiding the police.
“We appreciate the community’s vigilance and prompt action in this matter,” he said.
