The University of Ilesa, Osun State, has directed its staff to bar students dressed inappropriately from attending lectures or entering offices on campus.
This directive was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Taiwo Asaolu, during the institution’s second matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session, held on Wednesday.
Asaolu emphasized the importance of discipline, proper conduct, and compliance with university regulations.
“The University will not tolerate any form of dressing that exposes body parts in a manner that offends the sensibilities of others,” Asaolu said.
“Both the Security Personnel and the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance and Servicom have been empowered to arrest offenders for appropriate sanctions. Members of staff are also authorized to prevent improperly dressed students from entering their offices or attending lectures.”
To ensure orderliness and identification, the Vice-Chancellor instructed all students to wear their identity cards visibly while on campus.
He stated, “Your ID card is your only symbol of identity within the university premises. Wearing it will help avoid unnecessary embarrassment by security personnel at the entrance.”
Asaolu also warned students against involvement in cultism, bullying, harassment, hooliganism, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that such behaviors would attract severe penalties.
“No certificate will be awarded to any student found wanting in learning, discipline, or character,” he declared.
In addressing concerns about secret societies, Asaolu urged students to renounce their membership if they were involved in any outlawed groups, assuring them of counseling and rehabilitation. “If you are under pressure or threats to join an unregistered group, report immediately to the university’s Security Unit or the Director of Student Affairs,” he advised.
