Bayern Munich came from behind to secure a 5-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Michael Olise scoring twice in the second half.
This marked Bayern’s first away win in this season’s competition.
The result moved them up to eighth place with 12 points, putting them in position for automatic qualification, while Shakhtar, with only four points, remain 27th, three points behind the playoffs.
Bayern had suffered losses in their previous two away matches and were immediately put under pressure by Shakhtar, who took the lead after just five minutes. Oleksandr Zubkov’s through ball found Kevin, who evaded Kim Min-jae and fired into the far corner.
However, Bayern responded quickly, leveling the score in the 11th minute. Olise lost possession in the box, but the ball fell to Konrad Laimer, who controlled it and blasted it into the roof of the net.
Shakhtar nearly regained the lead shortly after, but Georgiy Sudakov fired wide from a great pass by Kevin that left him with a clear chance from near the penalty spot.
Instead, it was Bayern who surged ahead just before halftime. Jamal Musiala drove the ball into the box and set up Thomas Mueller, who finished calmly with a simple slot past the keeper.
The hosts began the second half with renewed pressure, but despite their efforts, they couldn’t find a second goal. Bayern extended their lead in the 70th minute when Olise converted a penalty after Alaa Ghram fouled substitute Sacha Boey.
Though Shakhtar’s keeper, Dmytro Riznyk, guessed the right way, Olise powered his spot-kick into the top corner, putting Bayern in control.
Musiala capped an excellent individual performance with a goal in the 87th minute. He latched onto a loose ball in the box and fired past Riznyk for his deserved reward.
In added time, Olise completed his brace with a moment of brilliance, weaving through Shakhtar’s defense and calmly finishing into the bottom corner to seal the win.
