The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into a runway accident involving an Allied Air Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:06 AM on Wednesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The aircraft, identified with registration marks 5N-JRT and operating as flight AJK206, had departed from Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos before skidding off Runway 22 upon landing.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, Bimbo Oladeji, confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded. However, the aircraft sustained extensive damage.
“The NSIB has initiated an investigation to determine the causal and contributory factors that led to this incident,” Oladeji said.
“Our Go Team has been dispatched to the site to conduct an on-site assessment, recover relevant data, and interview involved parties.”
Oladeji also reiterated the bureau’s commitment to identifying the root cause of the incident, ensuring safety improvements in the aviation sector.
