Residents of Kauru Local Government Area in Kaduna State are reeling from the abduction of 12 individuals, including the community leader of Unguwan Babangida, Mallam Babangida Sogiji, in two separate attacks on Libere and Unguwan Babangida communities.
The incidents, which occurred between Thursday and Friday, have heightened fear and displacement in the area.
According to DailyTrust, Aminu Khalid, the youth leader of Dokan Karji community, the first attack took place on Thursday afternoon when four individuals—Pheobe Adauji, Cecilia Moses, Tambaya, and Tambaya’s wife—were kidnapped while harvesting crops on their farms.
“The attackers struck while the victims were on their farms,” Khalid explained. “It’s alarming that even our farms, where people struggle to earn a living, are no longer safe.”
In a follow-up attack on Friday morning, six more residents were abducted from Unguwan Babangida, including the community leader, Mallam Babangida Sogiji, and two seasonal workers from Jigawa State who had come to the area for agricultural work.
“We are yet to hear from the kidnappers about ransom or negotiations,” Khalid added, emphasizing the uncertainty and fear gripping the community.
The youth leader expressed concern over the deteriorating security in the area, stating, “These bandits continue to operate unchallenged, occupying more villages in our local government and causing havoc. Many residents have fled their homes in fear.”
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful, is yet to comment on the issue..
