President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation effective immediately.
The appointment follows the commencement of pre-retirement leave by the outgoing AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu highlighted the critical importance of the Accountant General’s office in managing the nation’s finances.
“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is central to the effective management of our treasury. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and proven competence will ensure the continued efficiency of this vital institution as we push forward with our economic reform agenda,” President Tinubu said.
Mr. Ogunjimi, the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, brings over 30 years of experience in financial management across both public and private sectors.
He has served as the Director of Funds in the OAGF and as Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A seasoned professional, Mr. Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu praised Dr. Madein for her contributions, noting, “I commend Dr. Madein for her unwavering dedication and selfless service to our nation.”
Dr. Madein, who is set to retire officially on March 7, 2025, upon reaching the statutory retirement age, is recognized for her exceptional commitment to the administration of Nigeria’s treasury.
